Romance
Is there actual romance, or is it just sex scenes?
Core: Central to the story. There is no route around it.
This is probably the last tag you expected to find marked core on a page like this. It's the one I'd defend hardest.
Something like nine out of ten games in this space skip romance entirely. You meet a woman, there's a scene, and two clicks later you're in bed with her. Nothing happened between those two points. No situation developed, nothing was risked, neither of them changed. The scene arrives because the game owed you one.
If a scene could have happened on the first day you met her, it wasn't about her.
Wanting to fix that is one of the reasons I started building Lustbound in the first place. It isn't a concession I added to make the game respectable. It's closer to the foundation.
What core actually means here
Not that you're required to fall in love with someone. You can play this cold. You can play it cruel. What you can't do is play it instantly.
Nothing in this game happens between two people who haven't become something to each other first — and that something doesn't have to be affection. It can be trust, debt, resentment, dependence, fear. But it has to exist, it has to have been built in front of you, and you have to have done the building. That's the part with no route around it.
Which is also why the game is paced the way it is. If you're here to skip to the scenes, you'll find it slow, and I'd rather say that plainly than have you find out at a refund page.
Romance and corruption, both core
Those two tags sitting side by side looks like a contradiction until you notice it's the actual thesis of the game. Corruption without attachment is just content. Attachment is what gives any of it weight — you can't be compromised by someone you never cared about.
So the darker material in Lustbound doesn't cancel the romance, it depends on it. Every one of these women is someone you could genuinely end up wanting. That's not the softer half of the game sitting next to the harder half. It's the reason the harder half lands at all.
You can't lose something you never had. Everything else in this game is built on that sentence.
If you're here for romance
Then you're closer to the middle of what I'm making than the tag list probably suggests. It's fair to look at a list of content warnings and conclude this can't be a game about people who matter to each other. That reading is on me for how I've described it, not on you for arriving at it.
You can play a route where you fall for one woman, stay with her, and take that all the way to the end. It's fully written, it's not a lesser path, and it isn't the ending you get for playing it safe.
